Winter Storm Moves North From United states, Paralyzing Eastern Canada

CANADA: A blizzard of the United States north of the snow caused cars and stacked monitoring, closing schools, heavy snowfall and strong winds paralyzed eastern Canada on Wednesday.

Up to 60 centimeters (24 inches) of snow fell in parts of Ontario, Quebec and the coastal coastal region, according to the Canadian Meteorological Bureau.

The weather officials measured winds from 100 to 140 kilometers (about 60 to 90 miles) per hour, which led to piles of snow that blocked more than 300 vehicles for almost 12 hours from Montreal and caused numerous multiple vehicle collisions.

Authorities said about 70,000 families lost during the night of power. Snow cleaning teams felt overwhelmed, leaving firefighters to save drivers and passengers trapped in the car.

The road between Toronto and Montreal, meanwhile, remained closed after a collision of 30 vehicles on Tuesday.

One driver died and several others were treated during exposure to highly toxic hydrofluoric acid that was spilled from a overturned truck.

The scene in the airport area was also chaotic as passengers tried to re-book the thousands of canceled flights the day before.
